The lack of community in much of the poetry publishing world takes a lot of the meaning out of publishing. You sent your poems to a magazine electronically; they respond electronically. Your poem gets published and it appears in a print journal or electronic journal. You have no idea what the editors look like what their voice sound like, what their favorite food is--nothing.
I prefer to submit and publish in local magazines where i know what the editor looks like and how the editor talks.
Publishing poetry should build community rather than alienating one from community. Thank god for poetry readings where you can smell the poets and hear sometimes dull poems.
