Select poets will read at September 15th's poetrySPARK Featured Reader
evening at The Union and appear with former NC Piedmont Poet Laureate
Jaki Shelton Green, the Sacrificial Poets and others. The call is open
to all North Carolina writers, including students currently enrolled in
middle and high school. Poets must complete an application on the
SPARKcon website, submit three poems no longer than 40 lines each, and
pay a five dollar fee in order to be considered. Submitted poems are
blindly reviewed by a panel of judges. The deadline for poetry
submissions for September 2012's poetrySPARK events is Wednesday, August
15th at midnight. Poets are required to submit their name, pen name
(if they use one), email address, website (if available), 100-word bio,
and agree to the SPARKcon terms listed on the application form.

Other components of poetrySPARK include Spark After Dark, an erotic poetry event featuring burlesque dancers courtesy of circusSPARK, a Poetry Slam, youth poetry readings, and an open mic at White Collar Crime where a poet will be voted Best of the poetrySPARK Open Mic and receive a Kindle as a grand prize. This year's poetrySPARK events will also feature the 3rd Annual Poetry on Demand Booth where poems will be written in under three minutes based on spontaneous public prompts. poetrySPARK takes poetry to another level every year at Raleigh's SPARKcon creative festival. For four days every September, poetrySPARK lights up downtown Raleigh with erotic verse after dark, featured poet readings, an open mic contest, poetry on demand booth, youth poetry readings and a poetry slam. Held in the midst of fashion shows, street painting, graffiti art, music and comedy shows, poetrySPARK 2012 is September 13th-16th. poetrySPARK is completely volunteer-driven.

Based out of the Brier Creek region of Raleigh, Living Poetry is a free, co-educational poetry group that fosters the enjoyment of poetry through readings, workshops and lectures.
