Salem State professor receives international poetry prize

Ravenna Press recently announced the publication of Salem State University English professor Ann Taylor’s collected poetry, The River Within. Taylor, who teaches essay, poetry and non-fiction writing as well as English literature at the university, was the recipient of Ravenna’s inaugural Cathlamet Prize for Poetry in 2011, besting an international field of poets to take first place.
In addition to a cash award, Ravenna published Taylor’s poetry as the book The River Within, which has been described by poet Joan Houlihan as “page after page of pure pleasure that deliver that rare and refreshing thing: intelligent poetry.”

A graduate of Northeastern University and Boston University, Ann Taylor has been a member of the English department at Salem State for many years. She is also the author of two additional books, one on college composition and a collection of personal essays. Her poems have appeared or are forthcoming in such journals as Arion, Aurorean, Avocet, The Dalhousie Review, The Utah English Journal, and Classical and Modern Literature.

Ann Taylor resides in Woburn, Mass. Her collection is available from the publisher at www.ravennapress.com and will soon be available at the Salem State University bookstore and through Amazon.
